Bone Marrow Transplantation

Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant) is the transplantation of blood stem cells derived from the bone marrow or blood either of the patients themselves or their compatible related donors. Stem cell transplantation is a medical procedure in the fields of Hematology and Oncology, most often performed in patients with diseases of the blood, bone marrow, or certain types of cancer. For example, Leukemia, Lymphoma, Thalassaemia and other BMT indications are successfully treated by BMT in Turkey.
In Turkish hospitals, bone marrow transplants are successfully performed in both adults and children.
Each bone marrow donor candidate – either domestic or foreign – undergoes a strict medical and ethical assessment to determine suitability and compatibility.
Usually, foreign patients must travel to Turkey with their related donors – up to 4th degree relative, but there are exceptions. For example, if a patient who requires a bone marrow transplant is unable to find a suitable related donor at home, they may use the services of the Turkish National Donor Bank.
